Double Nutella Chip Cookies

Lately M - the husband is threatening me.
Every time he requests for something and I say I won't make it or let him buy it, his immediate impulse is to say "I'll write a nasty comment on your blog". So the other day, when he wanted to buy a jar of nutella and I screamed "No more nutella in our life"! Why I would I do that? Because the man I live with is one of the most disciplined and strong willed person I know. Me on the other hand? Never mind. The point is - he can have a spoon of nutella and stop there. Me, I go through the entire jar and the next day the man would be like "What the hell happened to the nutella!" I try to make an innocent face, but I'm really not blessed with a innocent looking face and he shall point towards my thighs and say "It will all go there baby". You see, he is a mean mean man.

My solution? We don't buy nutella. But he bought it anyway. And acted as if  I felt threatened, back in my mind though, were other plans.

I added butter and flour to it and made Double Nutella chip cookies. God save my thighs.

I have come across so many nutella cookies and I love them so, but always find them delicious and not enough nutella flavor. Those people at nutella know their game, you can't mess with nutella. It easily loses its hazelnut flavor if you add chocolate to it. So well, here's my solution, you make nutella cookies and add lots of nutella chips, every bite screams nutella.

The incredible idea for nutella chips comes from Ivory Hut. And I'll forever love her for bringing it in my life.

Double Nutella Chip Cookies
Makes 24 that is depending on how much licking takes place in the process

Ingredients

For nutella chips adapted from Ivory Hut
200g nutella
57 g butter (about half a stick)

For cookies
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup nutella
1 cup nutella chips, recipe above ( I think it makes more but you know licking and all that)
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
12 tbsp butter (melted and warm)
1/2 tsp salt

Method

For the nutella chips, melt the butter and nutella until glossy.

While still hot, transfer to the piping bag and pipe away. And I don't know why I went all fancy here. I might be feeling good about myself that day. But any other day, I would just spread it on a foil. Freeze it for 2-3 hours and transfer into a zip lock bag and store in the freezer until you need it.

Preheat the oven to 165 C/325 F. Mix the flour, salt and baking soda and keep aside.

In a large bowl whisk butter and sugar until well mixed. Whisk in egg and yolk.

Mix in nutella.

Add the flour in four batches, whisk as you add the flour, till it forms dough.

Lightly fold in the chips. Refrigerate the dough for half an hour.

Using an ice cream scoop or a spoon form the dough into balls and place it on a baking sheet with atleast 2 inch distance between them. I like my cookies really huge and it still made 24.

Bake for 20 minutes or until the edges are just getting ready to firm and center is still soft. Don't panic, they are done. Remove them from the oven and let it cool off on the baking tray. They will continue to bake on the tray.

Can I for preach something I didn't practice? Eat it in moderation. Take care of your thighs.

I bought nutella first time ever last year and celebrated nutella day out of nowhere with a spoon & jar.It was just so so addictive. We also refrain from buying it usually coz its hard to keep the jar away :) These cookies look amazing Kulsumm. The chips idea is quite innovative.
P.S. -I m running to get my jar again.U made me crave nutella again.Love the third pic.

  6. Nutella is no longer welcome in my house, for the reasons that you mention above. Seriously, that stuff is dangerous! And I don't get it, what's with men having such an iron will when it comes to things like that?

Amazing recipe! If I had Nutella I'd definitely make these. Until then I'll just drool over this photo!!

  37. Help !!!! I have been baking for years and my family adores Nutella. I am trying to make these cookies to send to my 12 year old daughter who is away at camp and I am having trouble melting the nutella for the chips. I am used to melting things in a double boiler and the microwave. I tried both and the nutella and butter just hardened up on me. I know if I add cream it will loosen it but then I can't make chips. I would love some pointers.

  38. Hey there!

I have made this cookies al ot of times and when you melt nutella and butter together it generally doesn't harden up immediately. But yes it does if it cools down. The trick is in piping them out immediately when the nutella is still hot. If you prefer, the easiest way to do it is to spread the mixture (when still hot) on a foil instead of piping it. After freezing it as explained in the recipe simply cut them into chunks for the cookies. Also when mixing them with batter, make sure they just out of the fridge and lightly fold it. I hope this helps. And I really hope your daughter enjoys them as much as we do :-)

  39. Thank You for your tips but Can you tell me how you melt the Nutella and butter. I didn't let it cool, it just wouldn't melt and get glossy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, I melt them on a double boiler too. Make sure the nutella is not from the fridge. Also it takes a little while for it to become glossy and come together but don't over do it either. Over doing it might lead to it hardening up as moisture from nutella may evaporate. I'm guessing here since I have never faced the problem. Also try whisking it while it melts to help it come together faster. In a pinch, try adding a tbsp or two more butter. Let me know how it goes

Yours came up beautiful, smelt delicious & tasted divine! Thank you for sharing the tip on chocolate 'messing up' the nutella/hazelnut taste. If only I knew that sooner....
    Once again, THANK U!
